Backflow and Cross Connection Testing

In accordance to the “Safe Drinking Water Act” and “Ontario Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change” regulations, which mandate water purveyors to protect the water supply to the point of delivery, The City of Toronto implemented the “Water Supply By-Law”. This bylaw addresses backflow prevention to ensure the safety of drinking water.

What is backflow?

It is a flowing back of water, or reversal of the normal direction of flow. Back flow into a public water system can pollute or contaminate the water in that system.

What is a backflow preventer?

A BFP is a mechanism used to prevent backflow. With internal seats, springs, and moving parts, they can be subject to fouling, wear, or fatigue.
